Wimbledon(no 10)
On the eve of the world’s two best players going head to head in tennis’ ultimate slam, the aptly named Wimbledon confirmed his status as the China Horse Club’s most improved racehorse.
The game and gritty sprinter has won three successive races between April and July and was bidding to cement his status as Singapore’s latest stakes winner when touched out in a photo finish in the $200,000 G3 Paititi Gold Trophy (1200m) yesterday.
“Wimbledon ran a super race. Stepping up from a Kranji C race to a Group 3 race is a very big jump in grade and he handled it very well. He looked the winner 100m from the line and only just got run down by a pretty useful horse in Daniel,” trained Michael Freedman said.

“It was basically a bob of the heads of the line and [Wimbledon] went down by the narrowest of margins. He has made huge improvement this horse in the last six or eight weeks and I think he is certainly capable of winning better races than what he has won so far. As long as he pulls up fine we will aim him for the $S250,000 Korean Racing Association Trophy (1200m) which comes up in two weeks time.”
Wimbledon’s blistering run of form has elevated his earnings passed the S$300,000 mark (RMB 1.4 million) from only 13 career starts to date.
