The growing ties between Ireland and China were reinforced with a meeting at the Irish Embassy in Beijing between Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister, MrEamon Gilmore, and Desert Star Holding’s Chairman, Mr Teo Ah Khing.
Mr Gilmore reinforced his nation’s interest in strengthening relations between his country and China confirming the strong support of Ireland’s Government in promoting ties between the thoroughbred industries of both countries. These ties not only take in bilateral trading of thoroughbreds but also expertise and an exchange of technology. This announcement came on the back of a recent agreement between the Irish and Chinese Governments that will allow for the direct movement of horses from Ireland to China.
Mr Teo outlined a vision of China’s future to Mr Gilmore which includes Inner Mongolia, the traditional centre of Asia’s horse culture. It is here where Desert Star Holdings is investing to develop a world class breeding centre that will not only generate a significant number of jobs and revenue opportunities, but will also have the capacity to drive growth in other regions of China. This project is one of several Desert Star Holdings will bring online in the coming years. Shanghai, China’s business and social epicenter, is listed as a suitable location for future co-operation with Desert Star Holdings.
Desert Star Holdings, supported by the Irish owned Coolmore, is driving growth in the thoroughbred breeding industry in the fledgling Chinese market.Coolmore is also assisting in an international scholarship program for Chinese students.Since the inception of this program in 2012, a growing number of students have begun building skillsets in the thoroughbred industry. These scholarships, which take in several countries, are designed to create the future leaders of China’s thoroughbred industry.
